Positive: While the stay was okay, there are several things they could have improved. The biggest thing being their security deposit. As a tourist from a different country, it is not immediately possible to have a large sum of money to transfer online as security deposit, especially since it takes time to setup a phone number and grab account in Malaysia. The property insisted on a security deposit which could have easily been collected when I was making the payment for the stay, or as cash when I arrive. There was no option for either, and it was quite stressful to pay the security deposit on short notice while I was baxkpacking in a remote part of Malaysia prior to the stay. I would urge the hotel to step up on their security deposit interface and either collect it when the main payment is happening, or at the site (eventually when they returned my security money via bank transfer, I got only 50% of it thanks to charges levied on wire transfer. So I ended up paying the total security deposit + wire transfer charges and only received 50% of the security deposit back. This is not the problem with the property per se as they have no role to play in the wire transfer handling process, but just reiterates my main point that the entire interface by which the property handles the security deposit is very outdated and needs to be revised. I have stayed in many many airbnbs and staycations and never have I faced this before. Even the checkin process was quite long with insistence for taking photos of everything while checking in (and out too). when someone is travelling long hours, the last thing they would want to do is go through a long checkin process and instead just look forward to a bed to lie down in. Unfortunately that was not the case. The stay itself was decent, it was close to my conference venue and had good food options downstairs. Rooms were clean, tidy, and worked fine. Bathroom was clean and dry.
