3 Bedroom House in Van Hornesville, Jordanville

Enjoy historic Cooperstown from Amy’s Creekside Cottage, a beautifully restored 1912 home in a quaint rural community. Newly renovated, this fully furnished two-three-bedroom home sits at the bend of a beautiful trout stream. Décor has been chosen with a mid-century flare that complements the historic nature of Cooperstown.
The short drive from Van Hornesville to Glimmerglass Opera and Cooperstown affords a spectacular view of Otsego Lake and its pristine east shore. Amy’s Creekside Cottage is just six miles from Glimmerglass Opera and fifteen miles from Cooperstown.
The large upstairs bedroom showcases a queen, teak bed, bedside tables, dresser, vanity, and Internet television. Adjacent walk-through landing at the top of the hickory staircase has a daybed but could also make a nice spot for an office. Downstairs a small private bedroom with an amazing view of the creek highlights hickory hardwood floors, a single bed with pull out trundle, dresser, and mid-century décor.
The kitchen-dining room is a time machine to an era of black and white tiled floor, glass-tiled wall, double cast-iron porcelain sink, custom cabinetry, mid-century table and chairs, and a view of the Otsquago Creek. Granite counters, stove, dishwasher, microwave and a full complement of utensils provide everything for our culinary guests.
The living room is mid-century modern with a shabby chic flare featuring rustic barn-wood wainscoting, period furnishings and a large television for streaming and select cable features. The bathroom on the first floor is newly refurbished with glass tile, a sink/vanity, and bathtub/shower, and black and white checkered floor. A washer dryer combination is also housed in the bath.
The secluded backyard provides a private setting accompanied by the rippling water of the Otsquago Creek, a protected trout stream just downstream from a state-operated fish hatchery.
Van Hornesville community is a treasure in itself. Located along the Otsquago Creek, the hamlet offers an extensive historical perspective in a rich, natural setting. Owen D. Young, the community’s late benefactor, funded the first phase of Owen D. Young Central School, where President Franklin D. Roosevelt gave the first commencement address in 1939. Marie Curie designed the science lab, and Albert Einstein taught a science class at this historic school.
Adjacent to the school and creek is the Robert B. Woodruff Outdoor Learning Center, the beginning of a system of trails and gorges leading to a spectacular falls and caves. Pack a lunch and take a modest hike to this popular nature retreat. Surrounding the hamlet, dairy farms nestle among rolling hills and country roads, where Amish farmers can be seen traveling with horse and carriages. Abundant fresh produce can be found at roadside stands seasonally.

Summary: We stayed for a long weekend for my wifes birthday with our 6 year old daughter. Our daughter LOVED the "Poodle" bedroom and now wants me to paint and decorate her bedroom the same way. The house is very old but cozy and in great condition. It was very cold and snowy when we were there, but i imagine in warmer months having the windows open at night to hear the creek right out back must be so relaxing. Everything was very clean and nicely stocked. The house is far from everything so make sure you bring everything you need, no quick run to the corner store here. I liked the period decorations and finishes, really makes the property unique. My two suggestions would be to put a light over the kitchen table (its very dark in the evening trying to eat) and in the living room the furniture looks cool, but the couch is not very friendly for snuggling and lounging. The stairs to the second level are very steep but the study handrails make it easy to climb up. The master bedroom and loft sleeping area have low angled ceilings and i banged my head a few times so just a "heads" up. It was also cold up there. I had a question during the stay and Debra was very fast to respond. Would definitely stay again if visiting the area and highly recommend the host. Thank you again for sharing your home with us.
