Watoomba House is one of Tin Can Bay’s original “Queenslander’s” with it’s high set design capturing cool sea breezes with plenty of space to comfortably accommodate 8 guests. Two verandas provide relaxing spaces to enjoy early morning birdlife with a cup of tea or sunset drinks n nibbles watching the tide make it’s way in. With Rainbow Beach’s stunning surf breaks, coloured sands, seasonal whale watching, horse riding along the beach, freshwater lake, 4wd tracks, world famous Wolf Rock dive site & beachside cafe’s only 30 minutes away, you can easily take a day trip and explore this incredible region, & of course it’s the gateway to world heritage listed K’gari - Fraser Island. Our beloved Watoomba House is full of local Tin Can Bay & Fraser Island history, you’ll find lots of interesting photographs from our families collection of the timber punting era during the early 1900’s from Fraser’s mighty rainforests, Kauri Creek, Schnapper Creek & many other surrounding areas, along with treasures from the Maheno ( Fraser Island’s famous shipwreck ) collected & transported on the original Watoomba safely to Hervey Bay after she was beached on Fraser Island during a cyclone in 1935. For the history enthusiasts we also have a fascinating collection of publications that give a wonderful insight into these early days of timber logging and punting timber along the Great Sandy Straights. Watoomba House captures a gorgeous sea view, enjoys endless refreshing sea breezes and has a large fully fenced yard for easy access and will keep your boat safe n sound when you’re not out catching fish or crabs ! Comfortably sleeping 8 guests, you’ll enjoy all the mod cons, with a giant 65” flat screen smart TV, ice cold air conditioning & ceiling fans in all bedrooms to ensure you stay cool as a cucumber during your summer seaside escape. The lounge area has generous & comfy seating connecting to the fully equipped open plan kitchen complete with breakfast bench, microwave, electric oven, large fridge / freezer & assorted cooking appliances. A good old fashioned walk in pantry also ensures you have plenty of room for all of your holiday fare without cluttering up the kitchen. The dining room overlooks the park, with seating for 8 it is close to the front veranda where you’ll enjoy sea views & a comfy wicker setting to relax in. The side veranda has an outdoor setting for those casual dinners & a cosy little setting for when you just want to soak up the sun & read a good book. A great selection of books, magazines & games are also on hand for your enjoyment. The main bedroom has a queen bed with a super comfy mattress, built in cupboards that offer loads of storage space, bedside tables & reading lamps, ceiling fan, block out curtains, & a gorgeous sea view from the bed. The second bedroom also has an extremely comfy queen bed, built in cupboards , bedside tables & reading lamps, ceiling fan & block out curtains. The third bedroom has a super comfy queen bed, bedside tables, reading lamps, large built in cupboards, ceiling fan & bunk bed. All beds have good quality pillows, doonas, quilts & extra cuddly blankets for those chilly winter nights. All you need to bring is your own sheets, pillowcases, towels, bathmats & beach towels – we provide tea towels for the kitchen ( please note there is no dishwasher – trust me you’ll thank us for leaving this one off the “must have whilst on holidays” list after you have spent some quality family time bonding over drying up the dishes each evening 😊 ). The upstairs bathroom has a vanity, bath tub & separate shower with the BEST water pressure in Australia !! seriously it’s amazing – guaranteed to please after a big day out on the water or after getting messy eating a feed of freshly cooked local mud crabs. The upstairs toilet is separate to the bathroom. Downstairs is where all the fun & games happen – with a full sized pool table, dart board, flat screen smart TV, stereo system, large BBQ plus the essential Beer & Bait fridge you wont run out of things to keep everyone entertained ! The large yard is the perfect spot for a game of backyard cricket. Parking under the house is a breeze for 2 vehicles, or store your fishing gear, kayaks & surfboards in the secure lockable space. Downstairs features the second bathroom with toilet & shower plus a washing machine in the laundry. You wont have to drive anywhere if you don’t want to – IGA is just a hop skip & a jump up the road (150m) open from 6am til 7pm every day of the week. Walk a little further on from IGA & you’ll find the town centre with a delicious bakery, pizza shop, fish n chips, fresh local seafood, pharmacy, bank, newsagent, gift store, hairdresser & fabulous local butcher shop. Take a stroll northwards along the esplanade & you’ll discover cafes, tackle shops, restaurants, the Snack Shack ( simply the best local seafood cooked to perfection every night of the week ! - choose local fillets of freshly caught reef fish, freshly shucked oysters and prawn cutlets soooo good ) . The Sleepy Lagoon Hotel & Thirsty Camel Bottle Shop is 600m walk up the road & serves up cracking pub fare, pizzas & cold beverages lunch & dinner. Lees Fishing Company is open daily 8am – 4.30pm with a magnificent offering of freshly caught local prawns, bugs, reef fish, crabs, oysters, scallops, squid & a freezer full of quality bait, whole mullet & crab pot frame packs. Then there’s the Yacht Club for absolute waterfront dining, the Marina Bar & Grill, Temptations by the Water, Alistans by the Bay, Tasty’s at Tin Can Bay or catch the free courtesy bus to the Tin Can Bay Country Club for delicious Chinese cuisine. Another must do is to call in to the Tin Can Bay RSL for a coldie on Sunday for their BBQ lunch & raffles – only 600m walk up the road from Watoomba House. No trip to Tin Can Bay is complete without enjoying a morning coffee at barnacles café overlooking Schnapper Creek after handfeeding the wild Australian humpback dolphins that have been visiting the area since 1950, this is such a memorable experience for both young and old guaranteed to leave a lasting impression on the many whom are lucky to take part in this daily occurrence. If you are keen to get out on the sparkling waters of the Bay and don’t have your own boat – don’t despair just hire one from Tin Can Bay Boat Hire – with plenty of local fishing tips to share they have several vessels for you to choose from and can get you safely out on the water in no time. They can even provide bait and tackle - and of course give a full safety briefing prior to your departure. When you feel like getting outta town for the day and exploring nearby areas, you are most certainly spoilt for choice with many incredibly diverse and pristine natural environments to discover. Number one on the list is world heritage listed Fraser Island - KGari - the world’s largest sand island and you can make an adventurous day trip or much longer if you have time. Rainbow Beach offers many fun experiences for the whole family, from climbing Carlo Sand Blow to take in the incredible views northward to Fraser Island, the stunning coloured sand cliffs and southbound to Double Island Point where its 4wd access only via the beach at low tide or the inland freshwater track. Once you get to Double Island walk to the Light House for panoramic views, spot whales ( seasonally ) during their migratory journey, see bottle nose dolphin pods, majestic Manta Rays and many species of turtles. If you don’t have your own kayaks make sure you book yourself on the Epic Ocean Adventure Dolphin View Kayak Tours departing from Rainbow Beach – you’ll get up close and personal with the friendly local dolphins, or pack your SUP or surf board and ride Australia’ s longest wave ( when conditions are right this break runs for over a kilometre !! ) – perfect for anyone learning to surf. Double Island is a stunning natural location, unspoilt and completely removed from the busier beach areas, with Honeymoon Bay offering an ever changing landscape of shifting sands and crystal clear turquoise water, you won’t want to pack up and leave ! Check tide times for safe beach access to DI as the infamous Mudlo Rocks have claimed many 4wd’s over the years – you don’t want to get your photo taken and placed on the wall of shame at the pub ! QPWS permits apply so jump on the Government website and get your permit before heading onto the beach. Also whilst in the Gympie region take the Valley Rattler Steam Train & Railmotor Tour departing from the Mary Valley Heritage Railway through the Scenic Mary Valley.
