Sea Spirit is a 600-sq foot cottage superbly located on top of a dramatic cliff with sweeping ocean views and great breezes. Your privacy is ensured by National Park surroundings. It has some of the best hush-hush snorkeling at the front of the house that exists on island... caves, live reefs and ultramarine blue drop offs with rays and dolphins. There is a resident spotted eagle ray at the front of the house. From its unique location you can walk to 2 pristine beaches. Kiddle Bay is very Maine-like with large flat stones that crackle at night, becoming sandy on one side. The other is Grootpan Bay and tends to be empty. If there is ever anyone there, it tends to be a nude beach. It is a mix of sand, small pebbles and coral. Both bays offer awesome snorkeling.
A short drive takes you to either Salt Pond Beach or the Lameshuur bays. Your constant companions are the umbrella of stars at night, the smell of salt air and the sounds of the wind and the waves and the occasional deer grazing in the yard. The restaurants and shopping amenities of Coral Bay are only minutes away, though you might prefer enjoying the deck. It won’t be long before your biggest worry is opting for sunset drinks at Sea Spirit or at one of the local eateries, stargazing or enjoying the musical scene in Coral Bay.
What’s no dilemma is our rates, we challenge anybody to procure such an experience as Sea Spirit for the price. Such a well-appointed cottage in such a one-of-a-kind location simply can’t be compared to any other St John house. Should you go for the Sea Spirit experience, you have to be warned: you’ll be back!

Summary: My husband and I spent a week here at the end of December/early January. This was our fifth visit to St John over 20 years, and if we come back again, this is where we will stay. It's hard to exaggerate the beauty and peacefulness of the location. Looking out at the ocean from the deck, no other structures are visible; it's just you and the water, sky, and hills. Being able to easily walk to Kiddel and Grootpan Bays (and, a little less easily, Salt Pond, which we also did) meant we had days when we didn't get into a motor vehicle, despite the isolated location.Terry was a lovely host. Communication was very good and thorough, and she even made some calls for us to gather information about an issue with our rental car. We showed up to a particularly nice selection of treats, too. (We kept trying, and failing, to find more of the maduros chips she left.)The house itself is perfectly acceptable. It was clean and well kitted-out. We very much appreciated the stock of herbs, spices, oil, and vinegar for cooking, the plethora of kitchenware, and the clothes washing facilities. The loft has no ventilation, and the ladder access takes balance and care. I wouldn't want to use it for a middle-of-the-night trip to the toilet myself.The unpaved road from 107 to the house is quite rough in places, something to keep in mind if you stay here and rent a vehicle.In summary, Sea Spirit is a spectacular place for one or two people wanting a bit of solitude on St John.
