2 Bedroom Cottage in Bibury

Spinner’s Cottage is a charming and beautifully renovated Grade II listed mid-17th Century cottage nestled on the edge of the popular Cotswold village of Bibury, described by William Morris the 19th-century artist and craftsman as, “the most beautiful village in England”. This three-storey, two-bedroom, two-bathroom cottage features stone mullion windows, traditional Cotswold beams and pretty window seats. Being a traditional spinner’s cottage, which would have accommodated a tall spinning wheel, there are unusually high ceilings for a cottage of this age. The cottage has a courtyard patio off the kitchen, where you can enjoy an alfresco dinner or enjoy your morning coffee and is a minute’s walk from a pub and the start of superb walks along the Coln Valley. Spinner’s Cottage is in an elevated position on the edge of beautiful Bibury village and is approached along a private no-through road, making it a peaceful and calm setting away from the hubbub of visitors to the village. As you turn into the shared courtyard, the scene ahead could come directly from any mid-17th Century painting. To the front, the cottage shares a gravel courtyard with three equally beautiful, Grade II listed properties, all with typical English cottage front gardens, forming a tranquil and quiet setting. To the side of the cottage is a passageway leading to a small, enclosed suntrap patio, also accessed through a stable door in the kitchen. Beyond the patio is a private, neighbouring garden, which provides fantastic views from the first floor living room and second-floor bedroom. Spinner’s Cottage has been restored to a very high standard whilst retaining enormous charm and character. Guests enter through a porch into a handy hallway that leads to a kitchen and dining area, with a stable door opening to a small courtyard patio. Guests also have access to a large and useful cellar/utility room below the dining area, accessed through an original, oak trap door. On the first floor there is a charming double-aspect sitting room with traditional oak-beamed inglenook, with an electric woodburner-effect fire, and views over a beautiful neighbouring garden. The second bedroom and a shower room are also on the first floor. Continuing up to the second floor is the gorgeous master bedroom with an attached bathroom, featuring an enticing Victoria & Albert roll top bath. Bibury village sits on the River Coln, a tributary of the River Thames. The village’s honey coloured cottages are what many visitors regard as quintessential Cotswold, with many visitors making a beeline to the famous Arlington Row cottages, once depicted on the inside cover of every UK passport, and just a minute’s walk from Spinner’s Cottage. Bibury has two country pubs, a tearoom and post office, and a trout farm with a ‘catch your own’ fishery. Bibury is perfectly located to visit Cirencester and Burford, both less than 10 miles away. Bibury is the starting point of fabulous walks up and down the Coln Valley – most notably to Coln St Aldwyns where you can stop for a drink and bite to eat at the New Inn, before returning to Spinner’s Cottage to rest and relax. The closest train station is Kemble (12 miles) on the GWR line from London Paddington. Full Property Description Ground Floor Entrance Hall Step through the front door into a handy enclosed porch with hooks for coats and room to remove boots and shoes. Continue through into the hallway, with the stairs to the two upper floors are straight ahead and the dining area and kitchen is off to the right. The Kitchen-Dining Area The pretty, dual-aspect kitchen-dining area has views out to the front courtyard through shuttered windows and to the rear patio, framed by the neighbouring garden’s mature trees. The dining area features a beautiful, herringbone hardwood tiled floor, with a circular table to one end to comfortably seat four guests. A double kitchen pantry cupboard stores the cleaning equipment and a highchair. Inside an antique Welsh dresser, you’ll find plenty of crockery and glasses for your stay. Tucked to one side of the dining area is the well-equipped kitchen, with polished limestone floor tiles, a beautiful marble worktop, butler sink and Everhot stove. On a sunny morning or warm summer evening, step through the kitchen’s stable door to eat al fresco in the courtyard patio. Utility / Laundry Room Within the dining area floor space there is a solid wood, hinged trap door. Once opened, stone steps lead down to the cellar where guests will find a washer, dryer and fridge/freezer. On arrival at the cottage, the trap door will be closed. Please take great care opening it and descending the steps which are uneven and have a low beam on the way down. (See the ‘Need to Know’ section for guidance on how to open the door.) Upstairs First Floor Head up the carpeted staircase, with a handrail, to the first-floor landing where there is a small bookcase and a pretty window seat with a view over the neighbouring garden. A large, clothes hanging area, with a tie-back curtain, is in a large inglenook space beside the original chimney breast, which itself features a fabulous arched antique mirror. Family Bathroom Directly next to Bedroom 1 sits the Family Bathroom, featuring a Victoria & Albert roll-top bath with a shower attachment (for hair washing only), a Waverley WC and wash basin, with a mirror and shaver point, and a heated towel rail. A wide windowsill provides plenty of room for personal items. Outside To the rear of the cottage is a small courtyard patio that can be accessed through the stable door in the kitchen or via a passage to the side of the cottage.
