INTERIOR DESIGN:
An artistic eye for minimalistic design allows you to limit distractions, so you can center yourself and find your inner creative child. Featuring dramatic concrete floors, black walls that seem to recede and an exposed beam ceiling, the monochromatic space is artfully uniting with a touch of spirituality and one-of-a-kind elegance unlike anything else you’ve ever experienced.
It’s a thought provoking study in contrast, the spaces between light and dark. The differences between society and nature. A journey in depth not breadth. The art of mystery allows for creativity to run wild here with endless possibilities. This home photographs like a masterpiece, because it is one. SLEEPING:
Every space features a portable AC unit and both bedrooms have their own wall heater for comfort all year round. The bedrooms are located on the South wing of the home, while the living spaces are on the North wing. The second bathroom is located near the living room to allow for easy access throughout the day, while the main bathroom is located in the primary bedroom.

OUTDOORS:
Shielded with trees, it’s quiet and unassuming from the outside, but the perfect place to free yourself from all worldly engagements. Or, as Thoreau suggests, saunter along the pathway in the back yard walkway that meanders like the river, and discover the blessing of losing yourself for half an hour under the desert sky because being in nature is a spiritual experience, which shapes who we are. Come round again at evening to the old hearth-side and observe as shades of night mingle with the daylight. Our expeditions are but tours, and half the walk is but retracing our steps.
By day, explore our walking trail throughout our 5-acre property. By night, throw some wood in the fire pit and sit around the hay bales while the stars come alive. Roast marshmallows, cleanse your spirits and set new intentions for what's ahead.
FEATURES:
This is a Smart Home equipped with e-locks for self check-in, solar power, and fast wifi. (Please note that wifi in the high desert can be spotty due to its remote location and extreme weather conditions.) There are purposefully no TV's to avoid distractions from the outer world and allow you to tune into your inner being. The kitchen and bathrooms are fully equipped with all of your cooking and travel necessities. Dollar General is also only a short walk away to stock up on anything needed.
CONCLUSION:

The Neighborhood:
We are in one of the original neighborhoods of Joshua Tree proper. Therefore, you will notice older homes around - some not lived in and others being re-developed. The neighborhood is safe since it is walking distance to the center of Joshua Tree (saloon, restaurants, shops).
Other Things to Note:
Please note that the interior of the home is very dim at nights blending with the dark of the desert nights. Don't forget to look where you walk. Sumptuous and divinely lit spaces set a gorgeous vibe which means there is no extra bright lighting. We have LED candles throughout the home and some soft lighting. But if you prefer brighter or newer spaces, we can recommend other listings to you.
CONCEPT & DESIGN:
This 1950's home has been thoughtfully repurposed and intentionally designed with monochromatic black walls, ceiling, and furniture and a minimalistic / resourceful style. While keeping original cabinets, windows, and kitchen nook to honor the home's past, we repurposed all natural materials in the creation of Saunter Home with concrete countertops, roofing material for the bathroom walls, beaded shower curtains, stone sink, and more. This home is for those that appreciate resourceful design and conceptual art.
FAMILY & PETS:
We are family and dog friendly! Children 2 years old and above must be included as part of the total guest count. Dogs are accepted on a case by case basis. We will ask you to agree to pet rules and request a $75 cleaning & companion fee per pet. While we have a fenced backyard, small dogs may still be able to pass through. Please see our House Rules for more information.
FIREWOOD:
We are happy to provide a bundle of firewood and kindling for $13. There are local stores like Mike’s Liquor up the street, which sell firewood bundles as well.
STUDIO GARAGE OFF LIMITS:
There is a small studio on the property edge which has been continuously occupied since the 1960’s. It is still in use as an art studio today. There are no shared spaces or windows facing one another. There is a divider fence separating it from the Saunter Home property for complete privacy. There is enough parking in our driveway for 2 vehicles.
HOT TUB:
Spa heat is included during your stay! We set the temperature to 104 degrees.
DAY GUESTS / VISITORS:
Any day guests must be approved prior to arrival. Day guests must leave by 10pm due to county ordinance.
PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF OUR NEIGHBORS! Follow our Good Neighbor Policy of no outside noise after 10pm and before 8am. Guests must refrain from any outdoor music, noise or other disruptions that may cause a disturbance to the community during quiet hours. Failure to respect quiet hours after an initial warning may result in cancellation of your reservation without refund.
BBQ:
We provide charcoal and utensils if you wish to use the BBQ.
CLEANING:
Health & safety is our number one priority. Our in-house cleaning team is trained on CDC and WHO protocols. We take extra measures to ensure the home is sanitized and safe before every arrival. For this reason we aren’t able to offer early check-ins or late check-outs. Thank you for understanding!
PHOTOSHOOTS & VIDEOS:
If you’re interested in doing a photoshoot or shooting a video, please let us know what it is for. You must get approval beforehand! If approved, we have an additional fee for licensing and usage.
WILDLIFE:
You’re surely guaranteed to encounter wildlife on your stay including families of Quail, rare Albino lizards, insects, snakes, squirrels and the endangered kangaroo mice.
NO SMOKING:
This is a non smoking home. Any and all smoking should be kept outdoors. There will be a $250 charge for anyone not honoring this guideline.
VENDORS:
The spa service is before and after reservations. If you have a stay longer than a week, we will coordinate spa/pool service with you.
PARKNG:
Please note that the garage is off-limits, but we have a driveway! 2 cars max are allowed to park overnight.
PROTECTION:
Our direct bookings are protected by SUPERHOG, our trust and safety partner. We need our guests who book with us directly to verify themselves after the booking is confirmed, which only takes less than a minute and is required prior to arrival. You will be contacted directly via email with a url link to start your verification.
EV CHARGER:
There is not an EV charger at the home, but there is a public EV charging station nearby at Joshua Tree Distillery, which allows charging for up to 2 hours per day.
