Positive: We liked that it was very private. We also liked the location to the beach. The beach is about ten blocks or one half of a mile and is an easy walk. My husband and I are both 61 and it was about an eight-minute walk, and the beach is so nice. The cottage is clean. The kitchen is well equipped to whip up just about anything, but it was the 4th of July week so we cooked on the grill outside every evening. They even had one of my favorite cookbooks in the cupboard, "Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone" by Deborah Madison. Anyway, they have a lot of other books, including children's books, and games and puzzles. We stayed three nights with our daughter and 3-year-old granddaughter and thoroughly enjoyed it. We went on the train ride to Garibaldi and back, played on the beach, went to the parade, Pronto Pup stand, Tillamook Cheese Factory, and of course watched the fireworks. Such a fun trip!! We would definitely stay there again.
Negative: The yard could use a little TLC. Also, there is no way to cover up the skylight upstairs and so we woke up at the break of dawn because of the sun shining through. There really should be some way to fix this. The place is definitely not childproof, but that is not really expected or an issue. When we were upstairs, we moved the bookcase in front of the stairs so our granddaughter wouldn't fall down them. Not a problem.
Summary: We loved our stay at the Sand Dollar Cottage Rockaway and would definitely stay there again.
