By combining the tranquillity of the NSW countryside with the seclusion of luxurious self-contained accommodation, Mandalay Villas provides the perfect getaway destination in the Hunter Valley. Mandalay Villas is a privately owned retreat serenely nestled in 5 acres at the foothills of the Brokenback Range. It is the ideal base from which to explore the oldest wine producing region in Australia. The retreat is situated at the beginning of the Congewai Road, 10 minutes drive from Cessnock in a south westerly direction. Driving time from Sydney's CBD is approximately 2 hours. Rest and relaxation are the key words at Mandalay Villas, be it a weekend break from a manic city life, a romantic holiday treat or a secluded honeymoon away from the hordes of friends, family and guests. The villas are architecturally designed and built to the highest standard. Tiled floors are covered with deep pile rugs and the walls are double brick to retain the heat in winter and the coolness of the air-conditioning during summer. Our pricing allows for a sumptuous breakfast hamper which will be in your villa on arrival. Barbecue hampers can be ordered in advance, for which there is a nominal charge. One villa has wheelchair access and a purpose-built accessible bathroom. THE CONGEWAI VALLEY The picturesque Congewai Valley begins at the Ellalong Lagoon and winds its way beside the Brokenback Range into the bush some 16km later. The scenery is stunningly breathtaking and well worth a drive or bike ride. We call this our 'Road to Mandalay'. Mandalay Villas is an easy 10 minute drive from Cessnock and 15 minutes drive from the beginning of Broke Road, which is the road that slices directly through the heart of the Hunter Valley wine country. Along the way you will be able to stop off at speciality cheese and chocolate factories, breweries, restaurants, art galleries, antique stores and, of course, the all-important cellar doors. THE VILLAS Both villas offer the height of luxury, not only in the obvious, but in the little touches. For instance, cutlery and crockery courtesy of Jamie Oliver, sheets, towels and bathrobes from Sheridan, complimentary toiletries from Molton Brown, paint from Farrow & Ball and plunger coffee from a delightful little Deli in Toulouse, France. The KITCHEN is fully-equipped with an electric cook-top and oven, toaster, coffee maker microwave, juicer, filtered rainwater, a well-stocked fridge, cooking utensils and glasses. The LIVING AREA has it's own gas fire and stereo system; its TV and DVD player (a library of over 250 DVDs is available) and bluetooth sound system. Books and board games are also provided. French doors lead onto the secluded terrace beside the pool, where you'll be able to sip sundowners watching the sun slowly sink behind the Brokenback Mountain Range. Or alternatively, cook up something on the barbecue. The BEDROOM has a comfy queen size bed from which you can see across to the bush and beyond. The sheets and pillow cases are luxurious Sheridan cotton and the cushions and pillows fluffy and comfortable. In the BATHROOM opulent facilities abound. A spa bath that can easily take two, fluffy bathrobes and bath sheets, complimentary toiletries of all descriptions, a private shower cubicle, a private toilet cubicle, ceiling heating lights and views out to the bush. On the north facing TERRACE are comfy chairs and a table large enough to take the wine cooler and glasses. The gas barbecue is within easy reach and the neighbour's horses will no doubt join you from across the fence for a cheeky carrot. Both villas have a private heated swimming pool in front of their French doors. Both pools are constantly heated to 28 degrees - even in winter. These provide our guests with a totally secluded sun trap, lying out area and cool place to dip their bodies. One of the villas has disability access and a purpose built wheelchair accessible bathroom.
