Ubud is said to be the art and culture capitol of Bali, a distinction that has continued throughout its long and fabulous history. Right on the edge of Ubud, on temple land in the Bali village of Penestanan, this new 2 bedroom villa was created to provide up to 4 people with a private, open air living option for a week, a month or more in a peaceful and well-located setting. The home is walled and gated, watched over by a stone Singaraja, part of the art & stonework that make Laba Desa a delight! The house is built on holy land owned by Temple Desa in the village of Penestanan. You can walk to the temple and this ancient village. This area is the beginning of some of the rice terraces Bali is known for. North from Ubud they become more and more extensive! The name Laba Desa means property of Bhrahma the creator. Open air and built in modern Bali style with AC in the bedroos, TV, WI-Fi, and a fully modern kitchen, the house is conveniently accessible by car or motorbike, or by paths along the canals that feed the rice fields. Laba Desa is built on one level in an L shape around the pool and small garden, fully enclosed and secure. The family temple is adjacent, and offerings are made by the family daily. There is an open air kitchen, living & dining area that faces the garden, as do the two bedrooms each with AC and its own full bathroom. This area of Penestanan has been opening new restaurants, bakeries, and organic cafes in recent years. Spas, yoga studios, and massage are only blocks away in Penestanan, Champuhan and Ubud. Laba Desa House is off the old Penestanan road that leads into Ubud a few blocks away. You get to the road, which has a taxi stand at a local eaterie, just down a private lane that leads from the peaceful grounds of Melati Cottages. It is an easy walk into Ubud, entering near the old hotel Tjampuhan with its fabulous spa, pools, and gardens. Owned by the Ubud royal family, the hotel is connected to the ancient river temple, where two rivers meet and the road into Ubud crosses the old bridge. Under renovation, the River Temple is set to re-open in September 2015. From the Hotel, shops, cafes, and galleries line the streets into town and Monkey Forest Road. The bridge and its restaurants, and the best of Ubud, are a ten minute walk away. You can easily catch a local taxi into town or back. This is a quiet and tranquil location, with walks and hikes in every direction. The house is owned and cared for by the same Bali family that operates Ibu Putu’s Warung, one of the original local restaurants in the area, still giving you a glimpse into the old Bali, the people and culture. Ubud is a 45 minute drive from the International Airport in Denpasar, the island's capitol. You can arrange to be picked up at the airport by Ibu’s son Ketut, who manages the property, or by a member of his family. His car is always a pleasure and his English is very good. The drive thru villages and rice fields is well worth the cost (about US $50 depending on time of arrival...daytime is always best). Accommodation – private Villa with walled grounds and pool: The house has two bedrooms, each with AC, and private open-air full bathroom. Beds are queen and king size respectively. The pool is in a garden right outside the bedrooms and open living/dining/kitchen area. The modern kitchen is well equipped. WI-Fi is included; fast enough for email but not for media downloads. Maid service is provided twice a week. If you need help with travel plans or shopping, the owner family is English-speaking and there is always a driver that can take you anywhere you desire in an air conditioned car. You have the opportunity to enjoy the privacy and beauty of Bali with the guidance and hospitality of an established Balinese family. Or you may just want to stroll into Ubud and do your own thing!
