Positive: The hotel is pretty easy going with relaxed atmosphere. Our room was big and comfortable, but simple. It's a no frills place. Located next to a bus stop or around 40 min by walk to the city centre. It offers breakfasts and dinners for additional fee, which can come handy as there are not many restaurants in Nikko and it's difficult to get a spot without prebooking.
Negative: Breakfast starts at 8, which is pretty late if you want to start exploring the area early or go hiking. We got very similar dish for both breakfast & dinner (meat patty, miso, sasuage).
