Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Check-in was very easy; friendly - I was escorted to my room - with details about the room explained. Coming from a large American city - I was concerned about general safety, especially after sundown. I felt safe there the entire time - no hang-arounds, no homeless, only couples with children, seniors, young people ....I felt very comfortable. People were able to help me in English, even if it was sometimes simple, they made every effort. I knew just enough very basic Serbian to make them laugh! Food at the Hotel Moskva was excellent, service staff was great - I'm moody and prefer to sit alone - or isolated. They understood 100%. Room service was quick and correctly priced, no price gouging. Breakfast had some Serbian specialties - eggs looked farm-fresh - great yoke color! I was able to walk everywhere - St. Sava's Temple, the Republic Square, the Historical Museum, the National Art Gallery, the waterfront at the Sava River - really great. Very pleased. Would return. Despite the hotel being over 100 years old, the rooms were clean, up to date, no signs of age.

Negative: At times the vehicular traffic was noisy - kids with noisy mufflers sending racket all over the city - this is not the hotel's fault. The police are more than aware of this. However, after 1 am or so - it was all silent...also - when you close the windows - the room is soundproof.

Summary: Belgrade cultural gem: Hotel Moskva - top, old palace hotel - more than worth the few extra dollars
