Positive: The coworking and relaxing space was so lovely — really peaceful and exactly what I wanted in Paje. It was a calm safe place to hang out in the evenings. The free breakfasts were also high quality.

Negative: Firstly, when I arrived the receptionist didn’t know I had a booking and then showed me to a shared dorm even though I’d booked a private room. I showed her the private room I’d booked on the Booking.com app but I’m not sure why she didn’t have a details. There was a BBQ in the room taking up most of the floor space which needed to be moved. The room was smaller than it seemed in the pictures and there was no mosquito net. I was also asked to pay for my stay again — even though I’d already paid in full online, but the receptionist didn’t know this until I showed her the receipt. She then asked for $14 city tax and I was so tired from not sleeping for two nights (I’d just arrived from a 17 hour flight) so I just gave it to her in cash even though my booking said all taxes included and never mentioned an extra city tax. I wish I’d argued that point because I’m on a tight budget and $14 is two nights’ stay elsewhere. On Saturday there was a DJ, which wasn’t advertised, and the hostel is really way too small to be a party hostel. The rooms are right next to the bar where the DJs were. At 1am I got really fed up (I’d been up all day walking about the forest and I didn’t sign up for a party hostel and wouldn’t have booked it if I’d known—I was there to relax and work) and said I wanted to leave and the co-owner drove my to his other hotel and let me stay there for free and offered to get me a taxi back in the morning. That was lovely and I really appreciated that a solution was found immediately and the people involved seem great, it’s just disorganised which creates unnecessary stress in what is otherwise such a relaxed area. It wouldn’t be hard to record guests’ rooms (I booked well in ahead) before they check in, review whether payments have been made and maybe put up some posters if there are music nights so they can be expected.
