Neighbourhood Canada Water has both fantastic connections to the Central London and pretty, peaceful pockets with a freshwater lake and wildlife refuge. Built largely on the footprints of the old docks, the area is full of history from the industrial age and a walk around the are will feature many old wharf buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. A 10 minute walk from Canada Water station is Southwark Park, with large open green spaces to relax and play in, as well as a boating lake with pedal boats for rent and tennis courts for hire. The Brunel Museum at Rotherhithe is well worth a visit to learn about the history of the first tunnel ever built underneath a river, which is still in use today. If you’re interested in the fascinating industrial history of the area as a vital location of import and trade, it might be worth trying one of Paul Talling’s Grand Surrey Canal walking tours; they track the long lost waterway through Surrey Quays. These sell out in advance so definitely book ahead of time. Canada Water has some fantastic local historic pubs, for example you have The Mayflower being the only pub in Britain licensed to sell British and American postage stamps. The Captain Kidd is another local favourite, with its garden directly overlooking the Thames. To enjoy a delicious meal visit The Pear Tree at Greenland Place to experience their ‘Dan Dan’ noodles, and Leadbelly’s for a variety of gluten-free specialities. Aside from being super close to central London, there are very special aspects to the neighbourhood such as walking along the Thames Path (at low tide there is a beach in front of the property!), visiting the city farm and eating at the scrumptious cafe, strolling along the docks or meandering through the ecological park. There is a cinema, bowling alley, and restaurants within walking distance. It is an amazing place and true gem of London Transit The Thames Clipper (it's the public transport by boat that accepts Oyster cards) is the best way to travel and is just next door. Surrey Quays (overground) and Canada Water (tube and overground) are a 15-minute walk. The C10 and 381 buses are just around the corner from Odessa Wharf. To give you an idea: it takes 5 minutes to Canary Wharf, 15 to London Bridge, and 10 to Greenwich. If you fancy a ride, Uber and Cabify are nice and cheaper alternatives to taxis. The closest airport is London City, at a 35-minute journey from the flat, otherwise, Gatwick Airport is very easy to reach via Jubilee line and Thameslink service.
