Summary: What a superb villa, the furnishings are eclectic (guess if you have small children you may be on edge all the time as some of the pieces look expensive), some of the views are wonderful (Catania city, port and the coast south, also the view of Etna) and the best part the pool. A very good size, clean and warm, you can't taste any "saltwater" it's the method the owners use to ensure the pool is kept clean without the need for chlorine, so you don't get the chlorine smell not a salty taste. I guess with the hot weather the pool, which is unheated, was around mid twenties, lovely. The air con was heaven with the temperature outside min 28C to max 38C, there is a 250kwh usage limit, asking as you switch the AC off when you go out and at night, there are individual AC units in each bedroom, but the main house rooms are served by a common cooling system. Due to the villa location, you have a choice rent a car and enjoy the hazards of driving in Italy or do as we did used taxis, which overall was much cheaper. Radio Taxi's of Catania were very good, always on time, gave fixed price of 20€, anywhere in catania even late at night. They use WhatsApp and understand English and always gave a quick reply. They also do airport transfers at 40€. We ate a number of times in Catania, the best La Deliziosa, definitely worth a try, make sure you book as it can be popular, you can book via thefork app they also sometimes do a promo for certain time slots eg 20% off food. There are a number of bakeries within a couple of mins, same with pizza takeaways, the supermarket despar is probably a 7-8 min walk where you can find everything you want, like most shops in Sicily they are shut from just after midday to 4.30. there is quite a nice fish restaurant in the village close to the supermarket, Pidatella, service can be a bit hit and miss, you might wait for an hour and then all your food might come at once, but the atmosphere was good, filled with locals, which says something. I hope you enjoy the villa and Sicily like we did, will intend to go back, perhaps when the temperature is a little cooler.
