Positive: The open air concept of the main floor, seating area for games and socializing, and the swinging lounge bed near the pool were special The main floor (open air living room/kitchen/pool) overlooks the bay in Zihua and this was spectacular. A perfect place for a New Years family get together. Our air con (a must even in January) in the master suite slowly died (2 days of sweaty nights), but as soon as I reported it (New Years Day!) the rental company sent 2 different servicemen and fixed it that day. Exceptional response, and should reassure any future travelers. The property manager was excellent on recs for a chef (perfect for your last night/Mariana Torres). Bring tennis racquets (if you play). Fun astroturf/sand court two houses away that is available to this gated safe community. The court plays like a combo grass/clay court. It’s just wicked hot after 9:30 am, so reserve a 8 am time (chalk board next to court).

Negative: We rented a car; this is a must to enjoy Zihua from this house. A cab/or walking would have been challenging or painful. A walk to La Ropa would take you 30 minutes and the walk back would be painful. Don’t do it, we didn’t, just watched others struggle from our air conditioned car. (There is parking at La Ropa or Central region, just have to look like any city in the world) Our daughter decided to fall asleep in the swinging bed near the pool one night. Mistake! She was severely bitten by mosquitos (they are present anywhere in Zihua or Mexico for that matter). Those of us that used Picaridin and lit Coleman Citranella candles (bring three) while eating/socializing on the main floor did well. But a teenager, dipping in the pool (washing off any bug spray) and falling asleep outdoors…. Bit of a mistake. This event should not deter anyone from renting this beautiful house. Just avoid the mistake and plan for skeeters appropriately.
