1 Bedroom House in Yelapa

Casa Cuentos, La Lomita Yelapa, Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco 48400, Mexico, that's the address.
It's an old place that we have renovated to combine traditional qualities and modern niceties. Palm roof (Palapa) locally produced shutters and iron work security; upper floor of sanded local hardwood with a Kingsize bed and mosquito net. Open plan main floor with simple kitchen, electric infrared double ring hob, coffee / herb grinder, two french press's for teas or coffee, sufficient utensils and crockery for simple home holiday cooking; also on main floor an eating area, luggage space and bench seat that can be a single bed with it's own mosquito net and a secure lock box underneath for your valuables.
There is on demand hot water in the kitchen and washroom for sinks and shower.
Casa Cuentos sits in a large property with an extensive garden; all the plants introduced on our behalf transforming what was a barren landscape in to an abundance of beautiful vegetation that teems with natural life attracting a multitude of butterflies and birds.
Also on the property is a ruin we call el santuario, the sanctuary. It's a work in progress soon to be a stand alone residence but for now it's yours to use for private rest and relaxation, reading, yoga, private sunbathing, meditation - it's up to you. When we stay with our family and friends we place tents there to extend the accommodation.
Water is supplied by both our own well and the local municipal supply. It's stored in water tanks and gravity fed to the taps and shower.
Yelapa is a small place. The pueblo is in a small bay at the southern end of the sea of banderas. The nearest international airport is Puerto Vallarta (PVR).
Puerto Vallarta is a coastal town roughly central on the sea of banderas which is on the west coast of Mexico in the state of Jalisco.
We have prepared directions regarding travel to Yelapa from Puerto Vallarta and how find Casa Cuentos. So when you book we'll send it to you.
In Yelapa there are general stores, a hardware store, restaurants, bars and a medical center. However there are no banks or ATM's in Yelapa so you bring your cash and card with you.
Close to Casa Cuentos is Dago and Erica’s store stocked with 20L reverse osmosis and bottled water, cheese, eggs, creamer called half y half (sometimes), carnation condensed milk, Rice, Soya and Almond milks, fresh vegetables, tinned goods a small selection of wine and spirits and cleaning materials. They also have cigarettes and rolling papers.
The are other stores up river and in the Pueblo.
So if you wish you can eat at home and just hang out in the privacy and quiet of the property.
Casa Cuentos is located on the northern side of the bay, the river to the southern side. The Medical center and the Pueblo(village) are on the southern side of the bay - over the river. There are many ways to cross the river but the suitability of those routes depends on the flow of the river and your common sense. If the river is running high it may be best to walk up river on to the bridge which is about ten minutes walk from Casa Cuentos, however during my last four visits to Yelapa the river was flowing very slowly and not emptying in to the sea, there was a sand bar blocking the river making it possible to cross the bay on the beach without walking through the river.
Casa Cuentos has sleeping accommodation for three adults, two upstairs and one on the lower area. We have mosquito nets in place but mosquito’s are not really a problem, there are however flying creatures, insects that might be a minor disturbance for visitors during sleep and that might arrive during the day, for that reason we place the nets. There is also a sense of traveler romance that sleeping under a net engenders.
Please do not expose the nets to naked flame. Please do not use candles in the casa. Please do not smoke in bed.
Please, NO PETS at Casa Cuentos, sorry!
In Yelapa you can swim, snorkel dive, fish, rent a kayak, paddle board or just do nothing while watching the world go by over while sipping a margarita. You can stay close by the casa and relax in the garden where humming birds and butterflies visit the abundance of flowers.
By taking the path that follows the river upstream there is a waterfall and bathing place to enjoy and if you don’t feel like walking you can go on a horse.
There are many paths to follow and hikes through the forest or up adjacent heights and if you are feeling brave you can hike up to Yelapa Tapa and para-glide down to the beach (if you have the skill).
When the wind is right there is a parachute ride, straight off the beach towed by a powerboat.
Frequently there is live music at one of the restaurants – look out for flyers on trees and power poles. There is a disco on Saturdays at the Yacht Club and Manguitos (up river past the bridge) also host musical events. There are frequent musical performances at Oasis, Chicos bar on the beach, Baracuda bar on the beach and sometimes at Hotel La Lagunita
If you yearn for the ocean, you can hire a man with a boat to take you fishing or book a trip to Las Islas Marietas, a day out to small islands in the Sea of Banderas where you can enjoy snorkel diving in the wonderful clear water and a meal of freshly caught fish.
Yelapa, so local folk-lore tells, was one of Bob Dylan's hangouts in the 60's, and it is undeniable that there are some wonderful musicians and artists living in or frequently visiting Yelapa. The village is small and familial with a permanent population of around 2000.
While there are no cars in Yelapa and mules have traditionally been used to transport materials and commodities there are no quite a lot of quads and some motorbikes. Be aware of mule trains and vehicles, stand back out of their way!
There is cell service at Casa Cuentos but no WiFi.
There is cell service most places in Yelapa and WiFi in many locations – the nearest WiFi to Casa Cuentos is at Hotel La Lagunita.
Wildlife is abundant but no large predators; Lots of insects but hardly any mosquito's. Casa Cuentos is located on the cusp of both the seaboard and the jungle so the qualities of both are ever present.
Take with you -

While most local people wear flip flops or go bare foot, strangers should be aware that the sensible advice is to wear closed toe shoes at least while getting to know the environment. it's best to walk on clear, open ground rather than terrain covered by leaf or other material that could be the home environment of creatures you are unfamiliar with.
Scorpions do live in Yelapa but they do not seek you out. If you receive a sting from scorpion or other creature it's best you present yourself to the medical center.
Don't walk in ant highways, they can bite.
Iguanas live locally in the wild as do other large lizards. If you are not knowledgeable about such creatures don't go near them.
Avoid contact with snakes - I've only seen one in ten years of knowing Yelapa.
