Although gentrification has arrived in recent decades, there is still a pleasing bohemian style to the areas that stands in contrast to the traditional style of the Vatican. Being a little cheaper to stay and live than some other parts of Rome, the area is a favourite of artists and creatives and the friendly community atmosphere, as well as the fact that it is one of the safest suburbs of the city, means it is an ideal place to stay during your trip to Italy’s capital. Gianicolo (or Janiculum Hill) is officially not considered to be one of the seven hills of Rome but it offers some of the very best views in the city and Piazzale Garibaldi is a great place to go to enjoy a meal and a stunning vista of eternal city below. If you follow the Via Garibaldi to the top, you’ll be walking through the site of one of the most decisive battles in Italy’s history as Garibaldi’s troops fought off the French army in 1849 on the way to uniting the nation. In honour of the iconic soldier, a cannon is fired every day at noon on Gianicolo Hill, a tradition that dates back to the 19th century. When it comes to finding great food nearby, Monteverde and Gianicolo will not leave you disappointed. Vascello is a hub of Sardinian cooking in Monteverde, run by two couples from the region. The service is friendly and informal and the food is of a very high quality, with the ravioli and ricotta a particular speciality on the lunch menu. La Gatta Mangiona is considered one of the best pizzerias in Rome, serving delicious pizzas and pies made on slowly leavened bread. Finally, Le Tre Zucche is a traditional Italian restaurant that offers moderately priced late night meals. For a good place to go for a drink in the evening, Alchimia is the best craft beer bar in Monteverde. The owner speaks excellent English and is passionate about offering quality craft beer. The small but beautiful Litro is perhaps the best place to enjoy a quiet glass of wine or a non-alcoholic drink in the afternoon sunshine before moving on to one of their tasty cocktails in the evening. ##Transit Leonardo Da Vinci Airport: 60 minutes by public transport Termini Station: 36 minutes by public transport San Peter's Square: 23 minutes by public transport Piazza Venezia: 28 minutes by public transport ##Notes Thank you for your interests in my apartment.
