The Space:
Peeping out from under festoons of wisteria, Beach Cottage blends nautical-but-nice vibes with cosy comfort to create a snug and secluded nest, just a few minutes’ walk from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. Relax in front of the fire after a day after immersing yourself in Totnes’s alternative way of life – it boasts an array of indie shops and is proud to have no Costa Coffee – as well as its abundance of riverside and country walks, local eateries and wine bars. Travel to other beautiful local coastal towns by train or hop in the car to visit countless stunning beaches, just a short drive away.
Simple and timeless, Beach Cottage is awash with fresh whites and cool blues, with splashes of colour adding warmth. Invitingly carefree, the open-plan kitchen, living and dining space invites relaxation and recuperation. Spend your days exploring and when the weather turns, head back to Beach Cottage to warm up in front of the fire or relax with a movie.
A well-equipped kitchen and dining area has all you need to create sumptuous meals using locally sourced ingredients from the plethora of independent food stores on your doorstep – try locals’ favourites Ticklemore Cheese Shop and the Happy Apple. Take your morning coffee outside on the decking for a peaceful start to the day or come evening, enjoy a glass of something cool under the twinkly fairy lights.
Promising all a good night’s sleep, up the spiral stairs are two spacious king-size bedrooms, one with a luxurious four-poster bed. The shared family bathroom features a jacuzzi bath and shower overhead.

Interaction with Guests:
Fresh Escapes are a professional holiday letting and management company with years of experience marketing, managing and even owning holiday homes in and around Devon. We're proud of our family-routes and aim to provide this same family feel to all of our guests. We know that many of our guests come on holiday to escape the world, and so we won't disturb you too much during your stay. We'll check in with you after you've arrived, and we'll be on hand if you need anything during your visit, but the house is yours to enjoy and we hope you'll love it as much as we do.
The Neighborhood:
Beautiful and bohemian, there’s no place in Devon like Totnes. The ancient market town on the mouth of the river Dart in Devon has the well-preserved shell of a motte-and-bailey castle, an Elizabethan butterwalk and a steep high street featuring many charming shops, restaurants, bars and pubs. Don’t miss vintage emporium Revival – an Aladdin’s cave of secondhand clothes and accessories. Bubbling below the surface is a subversive hub of alternative living – you’ll find an eclectic mix of new age characters, alternative therapy practitioners and vegan eateries.
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to eating and drinking out. Try Ben’s Wine and Tapas bar at the top of town for a romantic dinner for two, while Rumours, midway up the town, serves delicious pizzas and steaks. For an al fresco experience, head to the Waterside on the river for gorgeous food and views. The Curator on the Strand has the best coffee in town and offers a perfect people-watching spot or a place to stock up on snacks before heading out on a scenic walk down the estuary. Vegans and vegetarians will love the legendary lentil soup on Fridays at Willow while the Barrel House offers a café, bar and music. Don’t forget the great Friday market, where you’ll find organic fruit and vegetables, olives, chorizo and every kind of bread. The secondhand clothes stalls have real bargains, and there’s a wonderful plant stall, too.
The surrounding countryside is amazing, and Totnes is ideally placed between the South Hams coast and Dartmoor. Nearby beaches include Mothecombe, Bantham, South Milton, Thurlestone and Blackpool Sands. Jump on a train or hop in the car for 15 minutes to the historic harbour town of Brixham or for a livelier evening scene over in Torquay. Wine lovers will adore Sharpham Vineyard while families with small children in tow will love Pennywell Farm and the gardens at Dartington.
Getting Around:
There is no on-site parking but there are plenty of car parks available. Totnes railway station is five minutes’ walk away and is on the mainline train route, making it a perfect destination to visit by train. Use local public transport to explore the neighbouring towns and cities, or you can even travel by steam train and river boat.
For something a bit different, why not take a ferry cruise up the River Dart and explore historic Dartmouth - another historical bow in the quiver. With its rich maritime history awaiting at the end of your journey, you can cruise up the Dart and take in stunning riverside scenery, and even wildlife which like to show its face!
