The space
The property is at end of a quiet road near Bryson City, NC. Down the street is an idyllic meadow and a small lake where you might enjoy an evening stroll. The surrounding region is a nature-lovers paradise: Great Smoky Mountain National Park (the most biodiverse place in North America), Fontana Lake (canoe, kayak and motorboat excursions), Nantahala Outdoor Center (world-class whitewater rafting), Tsali Recreation Area (world-class mountain biking), and Tuckaseegee River (world-class fly fishing) are all nearby.
High adventure awaits, but you might also enjoy a quiet hike on the Appalachian Trail (20 mins) followed by a few hours on the porch with a good book. The Forest Light House is ideal for artists, writers and those seeking a quiet retreat by themselves or with loved ones.
In Bryson City (20 mins) and Sylva (40 mins), you'll find a handful of excellent restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops, along with an impressive number of microbreweries. Asheville (90 mins) makes a lovely day trip. Cruise along the high-elevation Blue Ridge Parkway -- one of the most scenic roads in North America -- and find a picnic spot amid the clouds. Pick up the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad in Bryson City for a backcountry tour of the Nantahala Gorge. Ask me for recommendations of local outfitters, which offer adventures ranging from fishing and horseback riding to whitewater kayaking and ziplining.
This is the land of the Cherokee. Cultural events and interpretive experiences are offered on the reservation. The region is known for its weaving, carving, pottery and other traditional crafts -- I hope you will support the local economy by bringing home something from one of the many artisans.
This unit includes a sleeping loft upstairs, plus a pullout sofa for the kids in a separate room.
If this space is booked for your preferred dates, message me about one of the other two suites at Forest Light House. The entire house may be booked for reunions, retreats and events.
Pets allowed for a $40 flat fee, payable after booking (but please inquire first about stays of more than one week with pets). Please disregard where it says no pets allowed in the house rules — for some reason I am unable to change this in the listing.
