A quiet retreat in the very center of town
Villa Oasis is one of the most luxurious vacation rentals in the heart of Guanajuato. It can be a retreat for artists, writers, amateur chefs, and anyone who wants to be close to the cultural amenities of Guanajuato centro without the hassle of walking long distances or taking a taxi. Situated a block from Callejon del Beso and within 5 minutes walking distance to Teatro Juarez, one can be at home to rest and relax between activities in very little time. The retreat is a three-story townhouse, with a rooftop garden on the third floor, the master bedroom on the second, with its own garden patio, the kitchen on the first, a recessed living room and a daylight basement where the second bedroom is. The house is full of light with high ceilings, large windows and a skylight on the top floor.
Villa Oasis has a system of purified water . The water pressure is consistent and strong from every faucet and shower on every floor. The house has a 96 sq ft rooftop patio. In the center third of the patio is a tempered glass cover with 70% UV protection. There are outdoor cafe tables and cushioned seats, where you can enjoy an expansive view of the uniquely colorful city, including the surrounding hills, the Alhondiga, Mercado Hildago, the church of San Roque, and El Pipila and the University.
The master bedroom on the second floor has maple flooring, a king size bed, a full-length mirror, and it's own living room for two, separated by a retractable curtain. Pella windows, installed throughout the house, are double glazed with interior shades to keep out noise and night light from the busy centro streets. Black out shades can cover the floor length windows for additional sleep quality. The bedroom has a small balcony that looks out onto Callejon San Cristobal. It has it's own bathroom with marble floors, a shower, a double sink made of granite, and a bidet. The oasis theme continues with sliding doors that open on to a covered patio with an outdoor table and chairs and the same gorgeous view as the rooftop deck .
One floor down, the contemporary kitchen has the great view of the city again, through panoramic Pella windows. It is fully equipped for baking and cooking, and with the market near by one has access to all the diverse and seasonal fruits and vegetables that Mexico has to offer. There is a full refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and a gas oven and stovetop with a warming oven for plates and/or food. We've roasted turkey, and made pizza, and French bread in the oven. In front of the windows there is a large mesquite table that seats 8 comfortably.
As one enters the slate covered hallway of the house on a hot sunny day directly from the busy street of Callejon San Cristobal, one is met with a refreshing coolness that feels like air conditioning. The house is insulated quite well and in the summer it can be at least 10 degrees cooler than the street. We also provide a fan and there is an air-conditioning unit that can be used on very hot days. In the winter we provide space heaters. From the entry way one can walk directly into the kitchen or walk five steps down into the recessed living room with maple flooring, on street level. The living room is a comfortable place for playing board games, socializing or reading.
From the living room going down to the daylight basement there is a wide marble staircase covered with a custom designed rug, and flanked by a built in bookcase, with many books on the history and archeology of Mexico, among other subjects.
At the bottom of the staircase is the daylight basement with an entertainment area with a TV, DVD player. Opposite the TV area is a cozy sitting area, a queen pullout sofa bed. Another amenity in the basement hallway is an exercise bike, an exercise mat, and ball. Below the library is a writing desk and chair. Opposite is the guest bathroom with a large oval mirror and granite counter top.
The very end of the hallway below the library leads to a recessed second bedroom. It has a queen size bed, a closet, and a full-length mirror and dresser. The bedroom and adjoining bathroom and shower floors are made of light marble with the bathroom counter top made of granite.
The washer and dryer are located in the half bath on the rooftop.
A few suggestions regarding the seasons and also the neighborhood fiesta on our street:
First of all the rainy season begins in July and goes into September. A sudden downpour can hit unexpectedly during this season. It's exciting and dramatic, but you need to be prepared. It's a good idea to bring an umbrella, a raincoat and waterproof boots or shoes. Moreover, the paving stones in centro can be quite slippery when wet. If you have shoes that are non-slip or have a good tread you might want to bring them.
During the winter season from December into March there are nights where occasionally the temperatures can drop into the 30's. Most houses in Mexico do not have built in heating. We provide a space heater for each bedroom and two blankets for each bed.
Finally, each neighborhood in Mexico has it's own patron saint and his/her special feast day. St Anthony of Padua is Callejon San Cristobal's patron and around June 13th the neighborhood celebrates for two or three days! The street is completely closed to traffic during the fiesta.
If you choose Villa Oasis you can be assured of good water pressure, light and airy spaces with all the amenities, and a relaxing vacation in the heart of Guanajuato city.
