The Aare Gorge
The Aare Gorge ( Aareschlucht in German) are narrow gorges that have been cut through an imposing limestone rock massif, in the Hasli Valley, near the town of Meiringen, Switzerland. The gorges were formed at the end of the last ice age, around 10,000 years ago, when torrential waters from melting glaciers eroded a deep and narrow chasm through the limestone mountain, the ‘Kircher’.
The Aare Gorge is open from April to the end of October via the western entrance and from May to mid-October via the eastern entrance. The price is around 7.50 Swiss francs for an adult.
